To the few who already know (we mentioned it in the first post, but our readership is very low…) and to all the rest of y’all, we have an announcement. We’re going to have a baby boy in February!! Crazy, right??This third Smith is the reason we’re calling our blog Tres Leches. Based on skin color, Miluska is clearly a Dulce de Leche-type person, and we’ve decided Kevin is probably coconut milk. It’s hard to tell from the ultrasound what our third’s moniker will be.
For the last four months, we’ve been calling him Noodle. We’ll be sitting at home reading a Dan Brown novel out loud and suddenly Miluska will jump in a startled way, reach for her belly and say, “The Noodle!” because he’s just thrown a punch. He’s really very strong for his age.
She didn’t always care for the nickname, of course. In a pre-matrimonial conversation, we talked about good names for children, along with how many and what kind, etc. Kevin joked that he liked the sound of “Noodle” for a pet name and told Miluska that one of their children was going to get called that regardless of real name or sex. It seems quite gender neutral, don’t you think? Miluska rolled her eyes. But when the time came and we had a genuine fetus on our hands, gender unknown, we fell to using “Noodle” in place of “baby”:
- “Have you seen my Noodle vitamins? I haven’t taken them yet today.”
- “The Noodle seems to like junk food, like his dad!”
- “Qué lindo, Noodlecito!” (yeah, it works in Spanish, too)
We feel like we’re growing up fast. And we pray that we’ll have the wherewithal to raise a baby boy. (Kevin, for example, needs to finally learn to throw a football so he can teach his son.) Even though the Noodle stuff is overwhelming at times, we feel extraordinarily grateful to our Father in Heaven for the blessing of a healthy, welcome pregnancy. Our gratitude goes as well to family and good friends who are more help to us than they can know.
February 2010, y’all. That’s when this is going down. Be excited.
That is fantastic news!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the nickname (or maybe legal name, we'll just have to wait and see) and it makes complete sense considering Blake Smith's alternate food-related moniker: The Chicken.
Good luck with that football throwing stuff. I still haven't figured it out either...
Boy am I glad I asked for a blog invite, I had no idea, that is fabulous news!!! Congratulations, baby boys really are the best!
