Catching UP, Part 3

Oh, we're on a roll now. Thank you, loyal readers, for sticking with us. I just know we can work our way out of this deficit eventually :-)

Welcome to the month of May.

Once upon a time in the spring, the BYU political society association of Washington, DC hosted an event at a Senate office building down on Capitol Hill. Milu and I both registered because we thought it would be cool to see Senator Hatch speak, and the other speakers were interesting as well. So, we got everyone dressed up, and made sure the Pax was fed right before we went in. Perrrrfect.

So we got in and Pax did great through Senator Hatch's speech. As the crowd of probably 150 ambitious young LDS persons erupted into applause, however, his mood abruptly changed. And once the crying started, it only got worse no matter what we did. Milu took him down the hall to the ladies room to see if she could calm him down, but in the big room they were holding the event in, you could hear his ever-intensifying screams echoing through the marble passageways. (Especially if you are his dad...)

We bailed after being there a total of twenty minutes, about half of which was spent trying to calm Pax down after his clap-shock. NOTE TO ALL: babies do not appreciate thunderous applause, so parents would be wise to not subject them to it.

We left with our heads hung in disgrace. But we snagged a picture for the record on our way back to the car:

Moving on. This month was HUGE for our little family. At the top of the list of big deals was Miluska's graduation from a prestigious institute of higher learning. We had all kinds of family from both sides there to support her (a special thanks to our out-of town visitors!!), and it was a really classy event held at DAR Constitution Hall. Yes, the same venue Flight of the Conchords plays when they come to town.

Cheering in the stands were Gaspares / Tejadas...

and Smiths...

Pax got a special outfit, too. But I'm not sure he was having a good time wearing it when this particular shot was taken:

He was much happier with a change of clothes and out getting some fresh air after the ceremony with Aunt Angie and the Mamima:

Top off the day with a little congratulatory ice cream cake!

Since we had all kinds of family in town for the done-with-Johns-Hopkins-SAIS-and-probably-all-other-schools, and we also had a baby in need of blessing, we arranged for his special day the same weekend. Pax got held by lots of aunts and uncles that day.

Uncle Kelly (not pictured) was doing a funny voice and making him laugh a lot.

The gathering that evening had Grandpa Tejada at the grill...

... lounging about on the deck...

... and doing the elbow dance inside?

Here's a little meeting that I actually missed (hat tip to those who took this pic!):

The remaining parts of the long Memorial Day weekend gave us a chance to tour some with family. Here's three very awesome people at a very awesome (and solemn) landmark in Washington. Can you name it?

Pax is more interested in cups and glasses of drink-type content than in foods for now. It has become nearly impossible to drink something while holding him.

Mami at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. "Watch out for the... er... nevermind."

Want to see something awesome? Here's a really artsy pair of photos:

We also met up briefly with Smith family persons at the Mall, too, but unfortunately I don't have any pictures with them (help, anyone?). After the museum craziness, I introduced the Peru side of the family to Korean food. Check out Woo Lae Oak in Tysons Corner if you're ever in the neighborhood; it's quite good, and I learned that Secretary Clinton ate there just last year!

All that was at the end of the month. In the middle of the month, our marriage turned one years old. So we asked for some babysitting help and took off to Williamsburg, VA for a night. Saw some sights, like the historic (rebuilt) Jamestown fort:

And downtown Williamsburg, just across from a graduation going on at the College of William and Mary down the street. We ran into an alumni of W&M, actually...

In the second half of the month, we also had some good friends come over for a ritual we like to call "ish." Basically the meaning of ish is just to eat Asian food with cool people on a weeknight. Here we are congregated around the kitchen island, savoring our homemade teriyaki chicken and pineapple.

Last, but certainly NOT least, May marked Miluska's first Mother's Day as a mother. She got a little reward for her efforts:
